Another entry on Hantaran… YES! I’ve been thinking of what to receive and what to give.
When me and the BF used to talk about hantaran… we used to say we want PS3, Wii and all those gadgets.. But when I come to think about it.. macam menunjuk-nunjuk jua. Tho’ it’s a trend to have Gadgets on your dulangs.. but sadang2 lah… lets keep that $$ for Honeymooning. Besides, if u give everything for hantaran, nanti you got nothing to give on birthdays and anniversary kannn hehehe.. unless it’s something DIY but guys jarang appreciate DIY stuff =)
Some ideas for those brides and grooms to be… Choose something your partner will use frequently and in a pair like watch (u can have a pair…split up ur budget to buy it) or sports attire(this is a must if ur husband to be is a sports man..u can get Polo Shirt Men size for him and Ladies cut for u..boleh request yg custom made jua on ur own design).
And here are what ppl usually give during hantaran
FOR HIM
1. Al-Quran (When u give this, Make sure ur Husband to be pandai baca Quran and make sure that he will recite the Quran atleast Twice a week..otherwise DON’T SHOWOFF AND GIVE ;)..jadi tempat pembiakan habuk sja karang..pedah ) and Sejadah (Make sure he pray 5 times a day otherwise…same…jangan tah d bagi)
2. Wedding Ring (it’s a Must for my Husband to be to wear Wedding Ring…)
3. Wallet, Belt, Neck-tie
4. Watch (For working or Casual or sports)
5. Shoe (Formal and sports) and Socks
6. Casual Sandal/Slipper (Bukan slipar jepun)
7. Perfumes
8. Toilettries
9. Working attires
10. Casual attires
11. Sports attires
12. Sets of Towels
13. Cakes Made by myself or order or maybe both) / Cookies
14. Something cooked by myself
15. Chocolates
16. Family Traditional Delicacies
FOR HER (For me lah..which I expect to receive… J)
1. Al-Quran and Sejadah. Telekong he gave already but if he wants to give again… boleh saja.
2. Wedding Ring + Mas Kahwin
3. Belanja Hangus(Berian)
4. Kain with tudong
5. Working attire with Tudung
6. Casual Attire with Tudung
7. Handbag with Shoe (For Formal and Casual..in 2 different Dulang)
8. Watch
9. Sets of Jewellary
10. Facial and Makeup Sets
11. Perfumes
12. Toileteries and Towels
13. Baking and Cooking utensils
14. Sewing/Craft kits
That’s all I can think of. Usually, In adat Melayu, hantaran should be in angka ganjil like 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and For Him should be more than For Her and should include delicacies..not sure why. Probably to show how well the Bride can cook but usually it’s by order. And For Her should always include Sewing kit.
Gifts can be combine in 1 dulang too, to reduce the no. of dulangs to be send and receive. For example, Facial and Makeup sets to be combine with Toiletries and Towels and also perfumes. Just to give you an idea on that lah… tapi siuk jua meliat kalau byk2 atu…
Note: This hantaran list does not include some gifts that should be given menurut adat adat certain kaum like..ada yang Tebus Bangsa(I think ani is when org biasa kawin dengan Dayangku), ada yang langkah dulang (this apply to the Bride only..if she has older sister who is not married yet.. and some kaum even a bride’s older brother who is not married yet pun dpt Langkah Dulang’s gift). And also Sireh junjung and adat Brunei, the Bride is to be given Jong Sarat. And there are even some guys who give their Wife-To-Be a bedroom set as part of their hantaran.
No matter how many dulangs of gift you wanna give your partner.. always discuss among the both of you. And make sure, you ask your partner’s view and know what he/she like and dislike..coz if you ask someone else to choose, they might not know what your partner like.
Cincin Tunang, Cincin Kawin and Hantarans adalah HAK the Bride-to-be and Groom-to-be..so choose yourselves and don’t ask your parents/siblings/cousins/aunts/uncles to choose…nada sentimental value tia…
Til the next entry… See ya
